When should my child first go to the dentist

I treat the entire family at my office so I often get the question when should my baby go to the dentist first. My answer is always it depends on when they get all of their teeth. Generally as soon as your baby gets the last of their baby teeth their should be 20 total have them see either your general or pediatric dentist. So there will be 10 on top and 10 on the bottom. The reason you want them in at such a young age is to make sure there are no cavities or other concerns. With the amount of sugar and processed food we consume as Americans cavities can happen at a very young age. Which brings me to another point brush your baby's teeth as soon as they come in at least every night. At most grocery stores you can finds baby brushes or ask your dentist. Most importantly never, I repeat never put your baby to bed with anything but water if they need a sippie or bottle. Anything other than water is a sure way to lots of cavities. Last point I would like to make floss your kids teeth every night or at least every other night especially if they have crowding. Thanks for reading.
